The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, create one of nature’s most stunning light shows and are frequently visible during the winter months in northern Sweden. This spectacular phenomenon draws visitors from around the world to witness the colourful ribbons dancing across the night sky.

Sweden’s location near the Arctic Circle and close to the magnetic North Pole makes it ideal for viewing the Aurora Borealis. Solar particles collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere, producing vivid displays of red, green, and purple lights that can last from a few minutes to several hours. The best viewing conditions are on cold, clear winter nights with minimal moonlight, when the sky is dark and unobstructed.

Experiencing the Northern Lights from a traditional Sami tent, or “lavvu,” adds a unique cultural dimension to the spectacle. It combines the magic of the lights with the history and lifestyle of Sweden’s native Sami people, creating an unforgettable and immersive adventure in the Arctic north.
