The Swedish Christmas table is a festive spread filled with a wide mix of traditional dishes, often plentiful enough to enjoy for several days after the holiday itself. It is a cherished part of Swedish holiday culture, bringing families together over comforting flavours that have been passed down through generations.
While every household adds its own touch, certain classics are almost always present. These include Christmas ham, rye bread flavoured with brewer’s wort, Jansson’s temptation made with potatoes, onions, and herring baked in cream, small cocktail sausages, pickled herring, and the ever-popular meatballs. During this season it is also common to decorate oranges with cloves and bright red ribbons, adding a warm and fragrant touch to the celebrations.
