Picking Mushrooms in Sweden - Summer Activity
Picking mushrooms (Svampplockning) is one of the best summer traditions in Sweden. From late summer the forests fill with edible mushrooms such as chanterelles (Kantarell), trattkantarell, boletes etc. However it is not an easy task to find the right place where mushrooms are growing. Because, the edible mushrooms are limited, and also it does not grow as much as berries.

Picking mushrooms in Sweden is a legal activity and allowed under ”The right of public access (allemansrätten)”. It means that you can freely move and explore the nature as long as you respect and do not disturb nature.
Having a secret mushroom spot is also a part of this mushrooms picking tradition. The one funny thing is, if you ask a Swede where they find best mushrooms, and you’ll likely get only a smile without answer. Since they like to keep their place as a secret, they rarely share it with others.

If you’re a beginner to mushroom picking, you must be careful about the toxic and poisonous mushrooms. Make sure to bring a good mushroom picking guidebook or app. Do not pick anything if you’re not 100% sure about.
Once you get familiar with these things, this becomes your exciting, delicious hunting hobby and rewarding adventure.
